About This Desk

This is a: about, written by Birgit Kellner 2383 days ago.
Keywords:

This is the desk of a researcher in Buddhism and classical Indian and Tibetan philosophy. My specialty is the history of epistemology and logic in India and Tibet, i.e. the so-called logico-epistemological school of Buddhism that was founded by Dignāga (ca. 480-540 CE) and Dharmakīrti (ca. 600-660 CE).

A desk is usually a gathering of papers with writing on them. On this desk, the following types of writing might be found:

  1. quotes: memorable quotations from books I happen to read.
  2. snips: short summaries of positions, excerpts from articles I’ve read, statements of problems in books, things I’ve heard (and forgotten where)
  3. articles: expressions of thoughts, ideas, positions, questions, doubts, of my own making and less derivative than quotes and snips.

Other items, notably glasses with mysterious beverages inside, might occasionally show up on this desk as well.

As the writing is concerned with things from India and Tibet, you will encounter diacritical characters which are used to transliterate Sanskrit and Tibetan. To see them, you need a Unicode font with the areas Latin Extended and Latin Extended Additional, such as Arial MS Unicode, Lucida Grande, Gentium, or Andrew Glass’s marvellous Gandhari Unicode (scroll). The Tibetan & Himalayan Digital Library of the University of Virginia maintains an excellent page on Unicode Diacritic Fonts.

This desk is organised by Textpattern.
